Kente Claus Spreading the Christmas Cheer
By Ron Fanfair on December 21, 2017
Kente Claus enjoys spreading joy at this time of year.
Last year, Dewitt Lee raised $340 from a Skate-A-Thon and the funds were used to buy Christmas gifts for children in Haiti.
With donations from the Salvation Army and private individuals, he’s using the money and gifts received this year to send to children in an after-school program in Jamaica.
"This was a calling,” he said. “I heard about the name Kente Claus, did some research and found out this is what he does.”
Kente Claus is an Afrocentric Santa who spreads the true reason for the season. His jolly stories of hope, joy and unity are shared through Kwanzaa principles and African proverbs.
Dressed in traditional Santa Claus suit with Kente fabric adds an ethnic flair that will inspire pride in all who associate with it.
